There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Scotland East Division is looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join the Division’s Finance team.
The Role
The role of the Assistant Accountant will report to the Divisional Finance Manager. The role involves assisting in the production of accurate and timely financial transactions and reports in addition to maintaining the business’s accounting records. It will also involve providing support and direction to Finance Assistants.
Principal accountabilities of the role include:
- Assist the Finance Manager with month end reconciliations and accounts preparation
- Assist the Finance Manager in preparing monthly journals and account analysis, financial year end and audit work.
- Prepare divisional reporting returns (VAT, CIS, Payroll, cash flow analysis & forecasting etc) for Finance Manager review and approval
- Maintenance of KPI & analysis schedules as requested by Finance Manager
- Maintenance of sales ledger including monthly sales reconciliation
- Provision of support and direction to Finance Assistants on daily workload
- Initial contact for Finance queries or problems, conduit for reporting and escalating issues to Finance Manager
- Assist the Finance Manager to implement business process improvements
- Finance champion for COINS in Scotland East supporting others when issues arise
- Assist with purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank and payroll processing when required
- Provide cover for various duties within the department.
- Troubleshooting transactions and suggesting corrections.
- Performing cost analysis
- Completing various returns and requests for information, as required.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
Experience
- Experience of working with accountancy software.
- Working knowledge of COINS is desirable
- Experience of working within a similar role is preferred
Qualifications and Training
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience working in an accounting/finance role
- Accounting/Finance HNC, HND or Degree
- Part-qualified accountant (ACCA,CIMA,CA or similar)
Skills and Aptitude
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisation and administration skills, including good attention to detail
- Ability to work on own as well as part of a team including Senior Management and Group functions
- Works effectively to deadlines and competently works on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficient IT skills along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and the ability to adapt to new systems

The Role and Working Conditions
- Willing to be flexible in respect to day to day duties and hours worked
- Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
