There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our North East Division is looking to recruit a Divisional Accountant to join the Divisional Finance Department.
The Role
The role of Divisional Accountant will report to the Divisional Finance Director. The role involves assisting in the production of accurate and timely financial transactions and reports in addition to maintaining the business’s accounting records. It will also involve providing support and direction to Finance Assistants.
Principal accountabilities of the role include:
- Preparation of monthly management accounts and supporting schedules
- Overseeing a team of 6 to manage the month end close process including prepayments, accruals, maintaining the fixed asset register, balance sheet reconciliations and other required journals
- Assist the Finance Director with the preparation and management of the budget and monthly forecast
- Assist the Finance Director in preparing financial year end and half year end group reporting packs.
- Assist the Finance Director in preparing year end audit work and liaising with the external auditors.
- Preparing and reviewing divisional reporting returns (VAT, CIS, Payroll, cash flow analysis & forecasting etc) prior to Finance Director approval
- Provision of support and direction to Finance Assistants on daily workload
- Initial contact for Finance queries or problems, conduit for reporting and escalating issues to Finance Director
- Producing other ad-hoc financial reports for management
- Assisting the Divisional Finance Director in ad-hoc finance projects and business process improvements
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
Experience
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with strict reporting deadlines
- Experience of working within a similar role is preferred
- Experience of working with construction or housebuilding is desirable
- Working knowledge of COINS is desirable
Qualifications and Training
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience working in an accounting/finance role
- Qualified Accountant (ACA,ACCA,CIMA or similar)
Skills and Aptitude
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisation and administration skills, including good attention to detail
- Ability to work on own as well as part of a team including Senior Management and Group functions
- Works effectively to deadlines and competently works on multiple tasks simultaneously
- IT literate, with high proficiency in Excel and the ability to adapt to new systems.
- Confident communicating information to non-financial employees and senior stakeholders.
- Proactive attitude to problem solving and willingness to undertake work of all levels.

The Role and Working Conditions
- Willing to be flexible in respect to day to day duties and hours worked
- Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
