Meet Victoria, Copywriter

Employee Stories

Having worked in marketing agencies for almost my entire career, I felt ready for a new challenge and to experience life ‘in-house’.

I was happy to take the position as copywriter in Bellway’s sales and marketing team, on a maternity cover contract basis, because who wouldn’t love to write about beautiful homes all day?

I was already well aware of Bellway’s excellent reputation as an employer in the North East and its prestige as a national company, so the decision to join the team was an easy one.

My temporary contract became a permanent role and a couple of years after joining, I was offered the chance to develop and oversee Bellway’s social media strategy as we launched across the major platforms. This was truly a once-in-a-career opportunity and an enormous learning curve for me professionally.

As a copywriter, I’m responsible for how Bellway speaks to our customers through the website and other digital channels, and ensuring that we communicate consistently and effectively, and always in line with our established brand guidelines. It’s a varied role, and I love getting stuck into a new project and crafting creative and inspirational copy that will resonate with someone thinking of buying a new home with us.

On a typical day, I could be working on a website listing for a new development that we’re launching soon, writing a lifestyle piece for our online magazine Your Nest or thinking of evocative ways to describe a new Bellway house style. I really enjoy being a copywriter and I’m fortunate to be able to say that I work alongside wonderful people too.

I have been inspired by many people during my time at Bellway but most recently my inspiration has come from other working mums, not only in my own personal friendship circles but also in the virtual communities that I’m part of, especially the Mums in Marketing. The juggle is real with being a working parent and it’s so valuable to have people there for you who truly ‘get it’ and can offer you practical advice or just a sympathetic listening ear.

Five years after joining Bellway, things have come full circle as I’ve recently returned from my own maternity leave, in my original copywriter role. I work part time, which provides me with a good work-life balance and precious time to spend with my daughter while she is still a baby – although I will openly admit that I find my job at Bellway far easier than my job as a mum.

I’m so grateful to my team who have been so supportive and understanding as I navigate life as a working parent.
